Ever heard of the phrase ‘Heaven on Earth’? I'm sure you have.
To let you know what Heaven on Earth means to me I will have to take you back a few years in time and let you in on how I started making jewellery.
Serendipity, that’s how it all began. About 8 years ago, I was at a local craft store to pick up a DIY kit at the request of a friend. I picked it up and moved towards the billing counter. Just as the billing was in process, I saw stashes of Ceramic beads near the counter.
I was enamoured, almost hypnotised into picking some up. I had no previous experience in making jewellery, but it was as if the beads were calling out to me. My mind started images of what supplies may be needed to create earrings, and I looked around to find small packs of head pins and ear hooks.
I remember coming back home that evening with beads and supplies worth a paltry ₹1000. However, I missed getting the most crucial tool with me, which was a humble pair of 'pliers'. Funnily so, the first few pair of earrings I made cost me my nails, because I was hell bent on making earrings that very night without a plier.
I made a few pairs and quickly shared the pictures with my family to get some feedback. Their feedback was encouraging and in fact some of them even booked those first few earrings.
Needless to say, I was overjoyed. To top it the sense of fulfilment and gratification I got from making the earrings was like no other. And that’s how an epiphany started my jewellery making journey.
From then on there was no looking back. And that's why when I see good beads, I am always tempted to buy them. Bead stores are certainly my 'Heaven on Earth'. I go berserk in those places.
